“I wanted to curate an exhibition, where both content and the medium were generated by human experience, but still kept the form and structure of a group exhibition where an artwork is allocated a space in the way the museum display objects. The exhibition was back then my attempt of finding ways of changing the way we look at art: our tactics as viewers of creating rituals around our visit to the museum or gallery and the dramaturgy that surrounds the presentation of an artwork” Christer Lundahl
The Exhibition:
The works was operating on self reflections providing short narratives and instructions related to the exhibition itself or other works on display. The Instructions were sometimes physically embodied or transacted by the visitors. This made the exhibition situation as a whole to be highly choreographed where the viewer were steered into a programmed itinerary between the artworks.
The exhibition space had also physical connection points between works through corridors and passage ways, there was as well as a programmed unfolding of works in time and sometimes the access to a specific work was dependent on the visitor being right in time.
This made the viewer take on a certain ownership or even authorship to their experience – their perception and reflection in between the works; the experience of the viewer moving from one place to another and her meaning interpretations of the route that she takes was equally important as the works themselves.
In the process of making the exhibition - as well as my experience of the exhibition when it opened up to the public – I realised that…for the type of art I wanted to, making the art work after been through a process of de-materialization to situate it in an experience taking place in the visitors body with imagination and memory as prime mediums.
- “Things needed to be done differently…would it not be better if the exhibition space was inverted or part of the visitors perception?”
The art imagined was a full circuit feedback loop of the concept of “ideo dynamic response” in neurologi where ideas or suggestions has effects on our bodies. Here it was a case of “ideo dynamic response” and back again – where our present bodily experience - also feeds back to our interior world”.
